Hey, Goth kids. Wipe your black mascara-laden tears away and put down the latest issue of Gothic Beauty magazine -- your beloved Goth Rock genre has been given the 'In One Minute' spotlight. Shockingly, we managed to not be total a-holes while discussing this hot topic (Get it? Like the store. You know, where the "Goth" mallrats shop. Pretty damn clever, huh? Alright, so maybe it wasn't THAT clever, but you don't have to be such a jerk about it. Man, now we're depressed. No one understands us. If only there was some way to find other people who feel misunderstood like we do, dress in black like we do, wear makeup like we do and obsess over death like we do. Oh well). Bela Lugosi may be dead, but the reverb-drenched, soulless rhythms of the Goth genre refuse to die.

Accurate to some extent until it gets to the 90s. marilyn manson (his name is undeserving of capital letters) is not Gothic rock, he is shock rock and a member of the mainstream. Hot Topic is also frowned upon in Goth subculture. We have names we use as insults for those who listen to manson and go to Hot Topic, those who listen to manson are mansonites, those who go to hot topic for everything they think is goth are known as Mallgoths. Also note my usage of the word subculture, Goth is a subculture, not a counterculture like the Hippies. Sure we realize the world is screwed up but we also realized that you guys are pretty hopeless, but we are tolerant of it because there are many good people out there as well. You want to get on the good side of a goth, be a good person, volunteer, spend your time and money on more than just yourself(unless you're one of those out there who is in need), don't be an egotist, and be more tolerant of others. Subcultures only exist because there are problems in the mainstream that force them to exist, it's like the Lorax(the classic Dr. Seuss), take care of your world, and then when the mainstream is good and accepting, we'll return.
