'Full House' Star Admits He Inspired 'You Oughta Know'



When word spread that Alanis Morissette's bitter breakup anthem 'You Oughta Know' was about her former lover, 'Full House' actor Dave Coulier, we didn't want to believe it. John Stamos, maybe. But Uncle Joey Gladstone? With those cute cartoon voices and that spot-on 'Popeye' impersonation? The same Uncle Joey who played a quirky science professor (Mr. Egghead) to his best friend/college buddy's daughter's (little Stephanie Tanner) science class? Whose only dream was a little room in which to practice his stand-up routine that would one day eventually land him on the Star Search stage? No way. Morissette has stayed mum about the song's subject since its release in 1995. Coulier, however, is fessin' up.

The actor tells the Calgary Herald that he was driving when he first heard 'You Oughta Know.' "I said, 'Wow, this girl is angry.' And then I said, 'Oh man, I think it's Alanis,'" he said. "I listened to the song over and over again, and I said, 'I think I have really hurt this person.' I tried to contact her and I finally got a hold of her. And at the same time, the press was calling and saying, 'You want to comment on this song?' I called her and I said, 'Hi. Uh, what do you want me to say?' And she said, 'You can say whatever you want.' We saw each other and hung out for an entire day. And it was beautiful. It was one of those things where it was kind of like, 'We're good.'"

Now, if we could only get Warren Beatty all liquored up to talk a little Carly Simon.

This totally ruined the song for me. I was picturing someone entirely different I'm totally shocked! I mean, this guy!? YUCK!! I LOOOVE Alanis Morrisette however and her new album ROCKS!! She's got the best vocalist and unique voice a true artist.

Has been or not, everytime you see a Full House rerun, he goes ka-ching. Syndication us a mother. Shame the people who called him a has been will have another reason to hate him.

Wow, people can be mean, I knew Dave and he was not nor could ever be a hasben. He is a very cool guy that is funny and really cares about people around him. So this Alanis fell for a good man that didn't return the same emotion, doesn't make him a vile creep makes him human and trust me, he may do a bulwinkle voice but the man is super man in other areas...that count that is..Hang in there Dave...

When this song was released it was the quintessential anthem of angst and rage from a scorned lover and it was amplified by the seemingly vile creep who was the subject of this song. The day I heard that Joey Gladstone was that vile creep, however, is the day that this song lost all of its credibility. I mean seriously, Uncle Joey? Ranger Joe? That grown man who still wears scooby doo pajamas? Oh Alanis...cut, it, out!

Right when this song first came out, he was right there, saying he was the one the song was about. Around this same time, Alanis was also asked if Mr. Coulier was the one who inspired it. While she said flat out, no it was not, she did go on to say that she'll never mention the name and 'if it [the song] were about revenge, his name would be posted all over town.'
